October DCCA Membership Meeting

Monday, October 2

7:30 PM - 9:30 PM

International Student House

1825 R St. NW

DC Food Policy Council Member, Jeremiah Lowery, will discuss exciting new initiatives for sustainable living and healthy food coming our way: The Good Food Purchasing Program is designed to do for the food system what LEED certification did for energy efficiency in buildings. This program encourages institutions to direct their buying toward five core values: local economies, environmental sustainability, valued workforce, animal welfare and nutrition.

The Healthy Students Amendment Act of 2017 bill makes changes to nutrition and wellness policies in District Schools. The DC Food Policy Council is a coalition of stakeholders and government representatives who are identifying regulatory burdens DC’s food economy, analyzing data on the food economy and food equity, promoting positive food policies, and guiding organizations and individuals involved in the food economy. This 30-40 minute talk will be followed by a Q & A.

Founded in 1922 in a townhouse at 1767 P Street, to promote and protect the interests of the residents, the Dupont Circle Citizens Association (DCCA) is the premier civic and residential organization in the Dupont Circle area.

DCCA brings neighbors, including residents, businesses and non-profit organizations, together to improve the quality of life in an active and diverse urban neighborhood. It holds membership meetings 9 times each year, which are open to the public, runs the Dupont Circle House Tour, resolves neighborhood issues through its committees, donates to local causes, and incubates innovative projects.
