First prize winner in several national and international competitions, among them “Svetoslav Obretenov”, “Classical and modern” and “Young Virtuosos”, Yana holds flute performance degrees from the National Academy of Music in Bulgaria (BM) and the University of South Florida (MM) where she was presented with an Outstanding Merit Award in “recognition of outstanding citizenship and exemplary performance”.
Argentine guitarist/composer Cristian Perez crafts a singular voice, rich in sensitivity and nuance, that freely explores the possibilities of music as an art form. Cristian's quest for beauty through musical self-expression takes the listener on an ever-changing journey, past the conventional boundaries of genre and style.
Cristian has been a Strathmore artist in residence in 2014-2015, and a featured artist of Vintage Guitar Magazine in 2016.
Over the last few years, Cristian has embellished his musical soundscape by re-discovering the folk music of his childhood and exploring the music of other cultures.
Here's a description of the duo:
Cristian Perez & Yana Hristova come together to present an "out-of-the-box" guitar and flute experience. With a distinct sound drawn from backgrounds in classical music, jazz, tango, South American and Eastern-European folk, they bend and blend genres into unique interpretations of music from around the world, as well as their own original compositions. This is World Music with a fresh and contemporary soul.
Cristian's 2016 debut release Anima Mundi (Latin for Soul of the World), featuring Yana Hristova, attracted world-wide praises and spent 10 weeks in the USA top 40 World Music charts, peaking at number 13.
